Report: DC United's Alvaro Saborio could return to Costa Rica next season

Could a longtime MLS veteran be on his way home in 2017?

That's the report out of Costa Rica regarding D.C. United forward Alvaro Saborio. La Nacion.com reports the 34-year-old may return to his original club, Saprissa, next season after the end of his current deal.

"First of all, I'm very happy a team as big as Saprissa and its president are interested in me and have left the doors open to me, I'm happy. There's a good chance [I will return]," Saborio is quoted as saying in the report.

Saborio has been in MLS since 2010, joining Real Salt Lake that season and remaining with the Utah side until July 2015, when he was traded to D.C. He has 71 goals in 154 career MLS regular season appearances, including four goals and three assists for D.C. United in 15 league appearances to date this season.

The Costa Rican international did note in the report, however, that there is a chance he could return to D.C. United next season, but the striker appears to have considerable interest in returning to the biggest club in his homeland.
