Report: Club captain Dax McCarty signs new deal with New York Red Bulls

Dax McCarty - New York Red Bulls - thumbs-up

It looks like the New York Red Bulls will not have to worry about midfielder Dax McCarty's  future much longer.

The Red Bulls captain, who had a year left on his existing contract, has reportedly signed a new four-year deal with the club, according to Ives Galarcep at Goal.com. The deal would lock up McCarty and prevent him from entering free agency in a year's time. The new free agency system for veteran players came into existence this offseason, with the likes of Drew Moor signing with Toronto FC and Justin Mapp joining Sporting KC.

McCarty, 28, has been with the Red Bulls since being traded during the 2011 season. He helped the Red Bulls to two Supporters' Shields in three years, including this past season as the club's new captain, and earned his first selections to both the MLS Best XI and MLS All-Star Game in 2015.
