Chivas USA and Chivas de Guadalajara are set to execute a player swap according to reports on ESPN Deportes and MedioTiempo.com.
Heading to the Liga MX side would be youngsters Julio Morales and Giovani Casillas, both of whom are on loan at Chivas USA from the Guadalajara parent club, as well as winger Eric Avila. Coming in the other direction would be 20-year-old Mexican forward Erick "El Cubo" Torres, who has 14 goals in 64 appearances with Guadalajara, but scored just once in 16 games this past season.
Avila, who is American-born but of Mexican descent and currently property of Chivas USA, has been a regular starter for the MLS club this season, bagging one goal and two assists in 13 appearances. He has six goals and 13 assists in 109 regular-season appearances since coming into MLS in 2008.
Avila, Casillas and Gabriel Farfan all trained with Guadalajara this week as the Mexican side eases into their preseason routine. Avila tweeted about it on Monday:
When contacted for comment, however, a Chivas USA spokesperson explained, "Our players are just training with Guadalajara because [Guadalajara head coach Benjamin] Galindo wanted to add some extra competition to their training sessions."
Chivas USA are currently last in the Western Conference with 11 points from 13 games.
