In an offseason of changes for the Chicago Fire, a new report indicates that another new transition is set to take place.
Paul Tenorio reported in The Athletic on Thursday that the Fire are working to hire a new sporting director, with the club hiring a consulting firm, Sportsology, to lead the initial search process.
As a result, general manager and president Nelson Rodriguez is expected to remain at the club, but will move to a new role focusing on the business side for the Fire, per Tenorio.
Chicago finished the 2019 season in eighth place in the Eastern Conference, three points out of the Audi 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs. Since the end of the season, the club – which featured Joe Mansueto taking over full ownership in September – have announced they will play at Soldier Field in 2020, have a new crest and club rebrand, and parted ways with head coach Veljko Paunovic, while also parting ways with many of the top players on the roster including all three Designated Players.
