TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report
Current Supporters' Shield leadersAtlanta United boast one of the most fearsome attacks in MLS. They’re a bit light in the defensive midfield department, however, leading to a dependence on the ageless Jeff Larentowicz – and reports of the club shopping for a new signing earlier this year.
Now an Argentinean journalist has linked the Five Stripes to another potential acquisition, 23-year-old midfielder Eric Remedi.
Leonel Cerrudo reported on Thursday that Atlanta has a “verbal agreement” in place to purchase Remedi from Argentine top-flight side Banfield for a $2 million transfer fee, plus performance bonuses, a cut from any future sale of the player and other considerations. He also claimed that the player is already on his way to the ATL to undergo a physical and visit the club.
A No. 6 who can also play center back, Remedi would fit the typical profile of ATLUTD’s most prominent international signings to date: A young South American talent who can contribute in MLS play immediately while also holding significant value as a possible future sell-on prospect. Dirty South Soccer has more details on the player and his possible transfer.
Remedi or any other such signing can not be completed until the MLS secondary transfer window opens on July 10, meaning that if acquired, the earliest he could appear in match action for the Five Stripes would be the home match vs. Seattle on July 15.
