CARSON, Calif. — Chivas USA head coach José Luis “El Chelís” Sánchez Solá expressed his frustrations following the latest loss Sunday night, claiming his team doesn’t have enough to compete in the Western Conference right now.
On Wednesday, captain Dan Kennedy agreed with that sentiment.
“The results tell the story,” Kennedy told reporters following the two-hour training session directed by Chelís. “We’ve been missing something. So whether it’s a team performance or an individual performance, we need more. It just hasn’t been good enough. We need to hold ourselves a little more accountable and expect more of ourselves.
“You also think about the opportunity of new players arriving in the summer window and that would definitely boost our squad. We’re open to it.”

Chelís did not speak to reporters on Wednesday, and a club spokesperson said the Mexican coach had visitors to attend to immediately after training.
The Goats have lost five of six matches, stumbling to the bottom of the conference standings. They have been outscored 11-1 in May and face Colorado on Saturday at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park (9 pm ET, watch on MLS Live), the same team that started the current six-match winless streak via a 1-0 result on April 13.
“There’s a lot of guys in the locker room that haven’t experienced this league before,” Kennedy said. “After 11 games, you have a good sense of where we’re at and how much work we have to do. This league is getting tougher each year, so the guys that are coming in hopefully have a quick learning curve.
"The sense I have in the locker room is that we’re still together. The guys still see eye to eye and we’re honest with each other. The honesty is that we have to get better.”

Chivas USA have scored five goals in five road matches, but four of those came March 24 in a 4-1 victory in Chicago. The other came in the waning moments of a 1-1 draw against the LA Galaxy on March 17, meaning the Goats haven’t found the net in a road game in two months.
“We meet every day. It’s always an ongoing thing, whether you’re winning or losing,” Kennedy said. “The good thing is we have a lot of good characters in this locker room. We’re in it together. We know that at the end of the day, it’s about us. We’re going to try to not let the results of the past six weeks get us down and go into Colorado thinking we can get something out of the game.”
