FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New York's winless skid at Gillette Stadium may never end at this rate.
Joel Lindpere's header a minute into second-half stoppage time could have and should have given the 10-man Red Bulls all three points. And then Darrius Barnes headed home his first MLS goal from a Ryan Guy cross with the last move of the game to snatch a 1-1 draw.
Instead of celebrating a first victory in Foxborough since June 29, 2002 and keeping pace in the hectic Eastern Conference race, the Red Bulls lamented yet another twist of fate at this haunted ground and watched their winless run at the venue increase to 16 matches.
The early stages suggested the visitors may have appeared a touch fortunate to get as far as they did on the night. New York goalkeeper Bill Gaudette benefited from a suspect offside decision and pulled off several fine saves to keep the Red Bulls level through the opening half.
Bengtson saw an apparent good goal ruled out for offside after four minutes, but the remainder of the half belonged to Gaudette. He turned away efforts from Bengtson, Diego Fagundez and Lee Nguyen inside the first 20 minutes.
Gaudette reserved his best stop until three minutes before the interval. Bengtson unleashed a first-time drive toward goal, but the Red Bulls goalkeeper parried the effort off the top of the crossbar to ensure the teams went into halftime tied.

Neither side really found its rhythm in the early stages of the second half. Revolution coach Jay Heaps sent on Benny Feilhaber and Juan Toja to press his side's claims for a victory in the late stages.
Feilhaber exerted an impact on the match just a minute after his arrival to help reduce the Red Bulls to 10 men. The former US international midfielder floated behind Lade after 74 minutes and forced the left back to haul him down for his second bookable offense.
The match looked destined for a scoreless draw until bedlam broke out in second-half stoppage time.
Lindpere handed the Red Bulls the lead with an opportunistic header after the Revs struggled to clear a Wilman Conde cross, but Barnes snatched a point in the final moments with his header.
