Colorado Rapids forward and MLS Cup hero Macoumba Kandji will undergo surgery next week to fix what has been diagnosed as a torn ACL.
Kandji suffered the injury during a play that led to the Rapids’ game-winning goal in the 105th minute on Sunday night. The striker slipped past FC Dallas defender Jair Benitez, but his touch was a bit heavy. He then stretched out his left leg to tip the ball, which went in after bouncing off FCD’s George John, but not before Kandji’s outstretched leg was met by Ugo Ihemelu.

The striker collapsed to the ground and had to be helped off the field by Colorado’s medical team. Kandji had come on in the 98th minute for Omar Cummings, who had gone off due to a hip injury.
After the Rapids 2-1 win over FC Dallas to claim their first crown, Kandji, with a noticeably swollen knee, told MLSsoccer.com he thought he had hyperextended his knee.
“I got up after the goal to try to celebrate and fell back down,” Kandji said after the match. “At first I thought I broke my leg."
