The Professional Referee Organization announced on Monday that MLS Referee of the Year Mark Geiger will officiate Sunday's MLS Cup Final between the LA Galaxy and New England Revolution (3pm ET, ESPN, UniMas in US, TSN, RDS in Canada).
It is Geiger's first assignment as head referee for the MLS Cup Final. He served as the fourth official for the 2008 MLS Cup Final, also held in Carson, California.
Geiger officiated three games at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, including the Round of 16 match between France and Nigeria, and also served as a fourth official during the tournament. In the last year, he has also worked games at the FIFA Club World Cup and in the CONCACAF Champions League.
Geiger's other playoff appearance this year was the Oct. 29 Knockout Round match between FC Dallas and the Vancouver Whitecaps. He worked three playoff games in 2013 and two in 2012.
During the 2014 season, Geiger officiated New England twice (May 3, Aug. 16) and the LA Galaxy once (Oct. 25).
