Two teams coming off Week 1 defeats square off at Providence Park Sunday when the Portland Timbers host expansion side Nashville SC.
The Timbers dropped their home opener, conceding three goals on the counter in a 3-1 defeat to Minnesota United Sunday. Diego Valeri equalized from the penalty spot after Ike Opara tripped up Felipe Mora in the box. That goal came five minutes after Kevin Molino put the Loons in front. The visitors then struck for two goals in a two-minute span, with Luis Amarilla scoring on his debut and Molino adding his second.
The largest crowd to watch a soccer match in Tennessee history packed Nissan Stadium for Nashville SC's inaugural MLS match, but they left disappointed after Atlanta United took all three points in a 2-1 victory Saturday night. Walker Zimmerman put his name in the record books as the first player to score in club history, leveling in the 28th minute. But Emerson Hyndman scored the decisive goal nine minutes later.
