It's official: Portland Timbers midfielder Darlington Nagbe is an American citizen.
That's the word from Timbers owner Merritt Paulson on Twitter on Thursday:
Nagbe, born in Liberia and raised in Ohio, is now officially eligible for selection to the US national team as a result of gaining citizenship, and has long been touted as a possible addition to Jurgen Klinsmann's squad. As he said in an article on MLSsoccer.com last month, however, he had not yet been approached by anyone from US Soccer yet about playing for the USMNT.
Regardless, one of the brightest talents in MLS is now officially available to play for his home country.
