The Portland Timbers have finalized the purchase of Tomas Conechny from San Lorenzo, the club announced Monday. The deal was completed utilizing Targeted Allocation Money (TAM).

Conechny, 21, had been on loan since joining Portland last summer.

“We are very pleased to secure the services of Tomas Conechny on a more permanent basis,” Timbers GM and president of soccer Gavin Wilkinson said in a statement. “Since joining the club a year ago, Tomas has shown encouraging development as a talented and dynamic young player who can play any of the attacking positions on our squad. We continue to believe he can contribute to our club in the immediate term, while providing us with long-term options at several positions.”

The attacking midfielder has made 12 appearances (two starts) during his time in Portland, sitting behind stars Diego Valeri and Sebastian Blanco. Conechny scored his first goal for the club earlier this season and has impressed in his limited time.

“We are extremely happy that Tomas is fully a part of the Timbers,” head coach Giovanni Savarese said. “As a younger player, we are excited to continue fostering his development and his talents, as Tomas is an important part of the team in the present, and in the future.”
