Portland Timbers forward Fanendo Adi's hamstring injury not deemed serious

Fanendo Adi - Portland Timbers - Celebrates a goal

The Portland Timbers and their fans can breathe a sigh of relief.

Timbers head coach Caleb Porter has told reporters that the hamstring injury Fanendo Adi suffered over the weekend is not serious. Adi was forced out of Portland's 2-1 home loss to New York City FC on Sunday in the 58th minute because of the injury, but tests done on Monday revealed that it was not serious.

While the injury is not severe, it is still unknown whether the 25-year-old striker will be healthy enough to play in the Timbers' Cascadia Cup showdown with the Vancouver Whitecaps on Sunday (4:30 pm ET, ESPN).

Adi, who won the MLS Player of the Month award in April, is currently in a three-way tie for the league lead in goals. He has netted eight times this season, as have Toronto FC playmaker Sebastian Giovinco and New York City FC striker David Villa.
