It may have been overshadowed by the lopsided loss, but Diego Valeri made history this past weekend for the Portland Timbers.
Valeri joined elite company by becoming the 18th player in MLS history to score 50 goals and deliver 50 assists. He reached that milestone in the 89th minute of the Timbers' 4-1 road loss to Toronto FC on Saturday, dribbling by a crowd of defenders before finding the back of the net to give Portland a late consolation prize.
Valeri reached the half-century mark in goals and assists in his fifth season in MLS and in 139 games, the third-fewest needed to reach that mark after Landon Donovan and Jaime Moreno. He also joins the likes of Brian McBride, Dwayne De Rosario, Cobi Jones, and more. You can see the full list of players who are in MLS's 50-50 club here.
