TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
The Portland Timbers have acquired left back Claudio Bravo from Argentine club Banfield, the club announced Thursday. He will be added to the roster with Targeted Allocation Money.
Bravo, 23, has spent his entire professional career with Banfield and has made 56 appearances for the club. He has represented the Argentine U-23 national team.
“Signing a player with Claudio Bravo’s skillset and ability is a tremendous positive for the club and our expectations for him as a Timbers player are extremely high,” Timbers GM and president of soccer Gavin Wilkinson said in a club statement. “We look forward to integrating him into the group and once he is acclimated we are confident he will be a very effective and dominant left back in our league.”
The news comes a few days after the Timbers traded homegrown fullback Marco Farfan to LAFC as well as reports they are in negotiations with LA Galaxy over a potential trade of longtime left back Jorge Villafana.
Portland also traded Julio Cascante to Austin FC earlier this offseason. The Timbers currently have 23 players under contract for 2021.
