The Portland Timbers are the first team in the 2018 U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals, as they defeated the LA Galaxy 1-0 on Friday night in the Round of 16 to advance in the knockout tournament.
Portland's goal came courtesy of Sebastian Blanco, who netted the winner in the 30th minute following a backheel layoff from Fanendo Adi.
The Galaxy's exit from the tournament could potentially be compounded by other losses on the night, as both Ola Kamara and Emmanuel Boateng were forced out of the match due to injuries.
In the USOC quarterfinals Portland will hit the road to play the winner of the LAFC vs. Sacramento Republic FC match taking place on Wednesday, June 20 (10:30 pm ET).
