Well, that was more like it! The US’s 4-0 rout of Costa Rica on Tuesday in Chicago put the Americans in an excellent position to advance out of their Copa America group. The final group game is in Philadelphia vs. Paraguay (7 pm ET; FS1, Univision, UDN); fans there who expected to see the US in the Gold Cup final last year have the chance to cheer an American victory in person – or revel elsewhere in the city.
Here are some events you may want to check out if you’re in the area (all times ET):
Friday, June 10
American Outlaws Night Before Party
Field House (1150 Filbert Street)
6 pm-midnight
Open to members and non-members alike, this AO party will literally take to the streets, as AO has clearance to close down part of Filbert Street for a block party. Highlights include DJ Sean Brace from Philly Influencer, stadium-style food (including, naturally, cheesesteaks), FIFA16 stations inside the Field House, and the brewing crew from Neshaminy Creek breaking out a firkin in addition to their assortment of beers.
Saturday, June 11
American Outlaws Tailgate
Wells Fargo Center (Lot G)
2-6 pm
The AO tailgate will be in the massive park lot serving the Wells Fargo Center and Lincoln Financial Field, with traditional grilling fare on board for fans. (Parking at the Wells Fargo Center lots are $25.) The march to the stadium will take place at 6 pm.
Copa America Viewing Parties
Field House
1150 Filbert Street
The official AO Philly bar, site of the AO’s Night Before party, resumes its role as one of the city’s best-loved sports bars. Though the regulars will likely be out in force at the Linc for the match, those who want beer, pub food, and the chance to hear the 75-pound Victory bell rung (http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/the-insider/This-story-rings-a-bell.html) will want to be at the Field House.
Tir na Nog
1600 Arch Street
This Irish pub (which put in a self-pouring beer station in 2010, in case you’ve ever wanted to play bartender or you’ve just dreamt of having a Guinness tap in your kitchen) is trumpeting both the Euros and Philly Beer Week, but they’ll also be showcasing the Yanks in prime time.
Fado
1500 Locust Street
The Philly branch of the national pub chain is so devoted to Philly soccer fans that it runs a bus out to Union matches. Like the other chapters of the pub across the nation, the bar will be hosting all the Copa America matches, so this is a good choice for those who want to witness the Group A finale doubleheader.
Brauhaus Schmitz
718 South Street
Also offering a bus to Union fans, this German-themed soccer pub airing Bundesliga games during the season will be showing the US game as part of this summer’s all-soccer all-the-time offerings.
Note: A previously announced watch party (and Starfinder fundraiser) at Pagano’s Market and Bar has been cancelled “due to unforeseen circumstances,” according to the online event page.
