He couldn’t stop the Union’s extended winless run at the New York Red Bulls last weekend, but Philadelphia goalkeeper Andre Blake did pick up a well-deserved win in the Week 30 MLS Save of the Week presented by Phillips 66 Lubricants.
Blake took home the honor for his diving stop of a Mike Grella shot that looked ticketed for the top corner in the 44th minute of Philadelphia’s 3-2 loss at New York last Saturday.
He beat out David Bingham in the final, taking home just over 69 percent of the vote to top the San Jose Earthquakes goalkeeper. Blake’s stop outpolled New York’s Luis Robles in the first round, then advanced past his own, earlier stop on Grella from last weekend’s match at Red Bull Arena to move to the final.
