PHILADELPHIA UNION vs. NEW YORK RED BULLS
TALEN ENERGY STADIUM • Chester, Pa.
July 17, 2016 • Week 19 â€¢ MLS Game #198
7 pm ET (FS1, FOX Deportes, MLS LIVE)

A contest for leadership of the Eastern Conference could be ahead when Philadelphia Union play host to the New York Red Bulls on Sunday evening at Talen Energy Stadium. The teams sit second and third respectively in the division, separated by just two points in the standings. Union are just a point out of first place in the East, rebounding from their first back-to-back losses this season in a 3-0 win against D.C. United last weekend. The Red Bulls are three points behind their cross-river rivals atop the conference, snapping a four-game winless run at midweek in a 2-0 win against Orlando City SC at Red Bull Arena.

  • Ilsinho scored his first two goals in MLS, and Roland Alberg scored his sixth goal in the league – all coming over the last five matches – as Union snapped a two-game losing slide with a 3-0 win against D.C. United on Saturday evening at Talen Energy Stadium.
  • The teams met three times a year ago in league play. Union won the first, a 2-0 win May 24 at Red Bull Arena, then the Red Bulls returned the favor with a 3-1 win Aug. 1 in Chester. The Red Bulls won 4-1 on Oct. 18 in Harrison in the final meeting between the teams.
  • The teams met earlier this year in a U.S. Open Cup fifth-round match, Chris Pontius scoring a pair of goals to lead Union to a 2-1 win June 29 at Talen Energy Stadium. It was the third time the clubs have met in the Open Cup, Union advancing each of the last two seasons.
  • Last year’s win in Harrison was Union’s first-ever there; the Red Bulls had gone 5-0-1 in their first six home games vs. Philadelphia, and also won a U.S. Open Cup tie there. Last year’s Red Bulls win in Chester was their first there since the 2012 season.
