The Philadelphia Union will hope to wrap up the second seed in the East when they host an NYCFC team that already clinched the top seed when the Eastern Conference foes meet at Talen Energy Stadium on Decision Day presented by AT&T.
The Union (16-10-7) suffered a 2-0 loss to Columbus Crew SC at MAPFRE Stadium Sunday, a second defeat in three games that secured the top seed in the East for NYCFC. Youness Mokhtar and Pedro Santos scored four minutes apart midway through the second half for Crew SC.
NYCFC (17-6-10) had a chance to secure the top seed, and the Concacaf Champions League berth that goes with it, but fell to the New England Revolution, 2-0, at Gillette Stadium. Teal Bunbury and Gustavo Bou scored second-half goals and Matt Turner made six saves to lead the Revs back to the postseason.
In the first meeting this season June 29 at Yankee Stadium, Taty Castellanos scored a pair of goals and drew a pair of penalty kicks, both converted by Maxi Moralez in a 4-2 win. Fafa Picault and Kacper Przybylko scored first-half goals for Philadelphia.
