TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Re-signed
The Philadelphia Union have re-signed Brazilian attacker Ilsinho on a one-year contract, the club announced Friday.
Ilsinho, 34, carved out a role as the league's most lethal supersubs, with 21 of his 28 appearances in 2019 coming from the bench. Over 1,083 minutes, he contributed five goals and eight assists, as well as countless highlight-reel moments with his stellar dribbling ability.
“We are pleased to have come to an agreement with Ilsinho and welcome him back to our roster for the 2020 season,” sporting director Ernst Tanner said in a statement. “His footwork and ability to press and possess on the attack are unmatched and proved to be crucial to our successful 2019 season, as they have over the last four seasons with the club. We look forward to what his continued leadership and skill will bring to our midfield this season.”
Ilsinho has made 103 appearances (54 starts) in his four seasons with the Union, returning for his fifth in 2020. Prior to MLS, he played the majority of his career with Ukrainian giants Shakhtar Donetsk.
Philadelphia's offseason continues with Ilsinho's return, following the permanent acquisition of Jamiro Monteiro on a club-record transfer as well as the additions of midfielders Matej Oravec and Jose Andres Martinez.
