Philadelphia Union 5, Richmond Kickers 0 | 2018 US Open Cup Recap


CHESTER, Pa. — The Philadelphia Union scored early and often in their first 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup game, rolling to a 5-0 win over the USL’s Richmond Kickers in the fourth round of the historic tournament Tuesday evening at Talen Energy Stadium.


Five different players scored for the Union with center back Jack Elliott, who recently lost his starting spot, opening the scoring three minutes into the game and David Accam scoring his first goal in a Union jersey on a penalty kick later in the first half.

Homegrown Anthony Fontana and Marcus Epps made it 4-0 before halftime, and reserve striker Jay Simpson scored the team’s fifth goal just after coming into the game for the Union, who improved to 9-0 against lower-division sides in Open Cup play.
