Orlando City SC want to acquire veteran striker German Cano and are "very close" to securing his signing amid competition from clubs in other countries, new head coach Oscar Pareja confirmed in an interview on Colombian television on Thursday, but he and his staff have to watch and wait to see if both parties can push the deal over the line in the coming days.

"He's a goleador [goal-scorer] and we want him," said the Lions' Colombian coach in Spanish of Cano, the top scorer in that nation's top flight this year, as he welcomed Telemedellin into his home in Llanogrande, outside Medellin. "Now we're waiting for everything we want, which is sometimes everything you need with this type of signing."

That was one of several Lions-related topics in the interview, which one Orlando supporter took the time to translate highlights from:

Cano, 31, began his senior professional career at Lanus but has spent much of his career abroad, with stints in Mexico and Colombia. He got a brief taste of MLS during his time with Pachuca, in the form of a dramatic Concacaf Champions League quarterfinal series vs. the Montreal Impact in 2015.

He's been one of the most prolific finishers in the world in 2019, with a whopping 41 goals across all competitions for Independiente Medellin, helping El Rojo Paisa win the Copa Aguila, the country's domestic cup competition.
