Palermo continued their good start to life under new coach Davide Ballardini with victory against Genoa on Sunday.
After a shock win over Roma last week the Sicilian giants were keen to maintain their good form, with Edison Cavani putting his side in the driving seat with the opener in the first half.
Defender Cesare Bovo grabbed a second just prior to the hour mark to seal the win. Genoa's returning hero Diego Milito grabbed a consolation goal in the final minute but it was too late to spark a comeback.
The win means Palermo keep pace with the early leaders in Serie A despite a poor start to the season when they lost their opener at Udinese, which led to coach Stefano Colantuono's sacking, and many were quick to write off their chances.
Since then the players have silenced their critics though with an inspired performance to brush aside Roma 3-1 last weekend in what was Ballardini's first game in charge of the Rossaneri.
Genoa themselves recorded a shock result last time when they defeated AC Milan 2-0 and they were keen to use that win as a springboard for a continued run of results.
But they started on the back foot in Sicily and looked somewhat shaky at first as goalkeeper Fernando Rubinho flapped at a cross after just two minutes and needed his defence to help him out.
Despite that it still took Palermo nearly 30 minutes to carve out their first decent chance on goal when Fabio Simplicio fired a shot just over the crossbar from inside the area.
Genoa responded just minutes later when Milito went even closer with a shot from just outside the area which crashed onto the crossbar.
Still it was no surprise when Palermo took the lead in the 39th minute. Simplicio played a killer pass through the Genoa defense which Cavani latched onto before beating Rubinho with a strong right-footed shot.
Genoa signaled their intent at the start of the second half when Omar Milanetto sent a free-kick just wide of the left-hand post of the Palermo goal four minutes after the restart.
But despite the brighter start the visitors soon found themselves two goals behind when some good work from a set piece after 58 minutes allowed Fabio Liverani to set up Bovo, who fired a long-range shot into the bottom corner of the goal with Rubinho rooted to the spot.
Three minutes later and Cavani had a glorious chance to make it 3-0 when a pass from Davide Succi put him through on goal one-on-one with Rubinho, but the Genoa keeper was able to make the save.
But the hosts were never made to rue their miss until the 89th minute when their concentration dropped and Milito was able to sneak in among the Palermo defense to tap a consolation goal from just a few yards out.
