It's a day of the week that ends in "y," and so it's time once again for another story about Major League Soccer fans' favorite striving MLS expansion candidate. I'm talking, of course, about USL PRO side Orlando City SC.
But today, it's not about proposed new state legislation or their new ace-in-the-hole executive; it doesn't even have anything to do with their US Open Cup slaying of defending champions Sporting Kansas City, nor does it involve world soccer superstar Kaká. (Seriously, we've dedicated a lot of digital inches to these third-division guys trying to make the jump to MLS by 2015.)
It's a little more simple than that this time, actually. Orlando City have been closing in on funding to build a brand new soccer stadium in downtown Orlando, Fla., for quite some time now. Their philosophy seems to be "build it [stadium], and they [MLS] will come." They might be right.
They also strongly believe that stadium will eventually be pushed through the Florida state legislature, and holding conviction in what you do yourself is half the battle. And just like the rest of the world, any sporting venue needs a name.
So what did Orlando City do? They purchased eight Internet domain names for eight different potential stadium names. The Internet really can tell you everything before it happens. This occurred all the way back on February 19, according to ScoringThird.com. The eight names are as follows:
OrlandoCityStadium.com
OrlandoCityField.com
OrlandoCityPark.com
OrlandoCitrusStadium.com
OrlandoCitrusPark.com
OrlandoCitrusField.com
OrlandoField.com
OrlandoStadium.com
Of the eight, which one rings most "major league" to you? Because that's what OCSC is striving to be. How about something better than the eight above? Maybe a possible sponsor that fits the ethos or profile of the Orlando club for down the road?
