Orlando City SC sign midfielder David Loera to Homegrown deal

TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing

Orlando City SC have signed midfielder David Loera to a Homegrown contract, the club announced Monday. Loera is the club's sixth Homegrown signing.

Loera, 21, played three seasons of college soccer at North Carolina State University, where the attacking midfielder had five goals and three assists. He was named to the All-ACC Second Team this season, earning All-ACC honors each of his three seasons at the University.

“We are thrilled to sign David to a multi-year Homegrown contract,” EVP of soccer operations Luiz Muzzi said in a club statement. “It is imperative for us to continue to grow the talent here in Central Florida and to work toward creating a pathway from our Development Academy to the first team and David is an example of just that. He possesses great vision and control on the ball and we are very excited about his addition to our roster.”

MLSsoccer.com's Travis Clark highlighted Loera as one of 10 players who might sign a Homegrown deal this offseason. Clark's analysis of the player is below:

Creative and crafty in possession, Loera buzzes around the attacking third looking to make things happen. He’ll likely face the usual questions that attacking midfielders do when moving from college to pro soccer: Where he fits on the field from a positional standpoint, if he can impact the game offensively and how he’ll adjust to facing improved defenders. Loera’s adapted to college and has the quality to do the same if given time to develop and adjust to MLS.
