TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
Orlando City SC have acquired defender Jonathan Suarez on loan from Liga MX club Queretaro FC, the club announced Wednesday. The deal includes a purchase option.
Born in California, Suarez is a dual national and has represented the United States at the youth international level. The left back, who turns 24 this month, has made 14 top flight appearances in Mexico and a further 28 in the second tier.
“Completing the process of bringing Jonathan to play for us on loan is another important step towards improving our roster and creating depth for us at left back,” EVP of Soccer Operations Luiz Muzzi said in a club statement. “Having proven himself to be a top competitor in Liga MX through his versatility, quality on the ball and strength in the buildup, we’re excited to see the different perspectives and skills that he brings to our backline.”
The move adds depth for Orlando behind starter Joao Moutinho. The club lost Kamal Miller in the Expansion Draft, limiting their depth in defense.
