Orlando City SC’s ownership group includes a new partner, after Jed Kaplan recently acquired a minority stake in the Florida-based club.
Kaplan is also a minority owner of the NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies and Championship's Swansea City, a club in England’s second tier. Kaplan, the CEO of Simplicity Esports, also operates the Esports team for Brazilian powerhouse Flamengo, leading to a diverse sports portfolio.
Orlando, now in their sixth MLS season, have Flavio Augusto da Silva as their majority owner and chairman. They’ve invested in Exploria Stadium, a soccer-specific venue that opened for the 2017 season, and they've brought in star Designated Players like Kaká and Nani.
The Lions are enjoying their best MLS season to date, having brought on head coach Oscar Pareja to lead the way reprising the partnership with Luiz Muzzi, EVP of Soccer Operations, which brought plenty of success in Dallas. Orlando advanced to the final of this summer’s MLS is Back Tournament and are currently in fourth place in the East, just four points out of first place.
