TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Loan
Orlando City SC have acquired Argentine center back Rodrigo Schlegel on loan from Racing Club, the club announced Monday. The deal includes an option to purchase after the loan.
Schlegel, 22, was part of Racing Club's squad that won the league title this year, making five appearances.
“We are very happy to add Rodrigo to our roster for 2020. He helps bring some depth to our back line as well as some added experience after coming through one of Argentina’s top clubs,” EVP of soccer operations Luiz Muzzi said in a club statement. “As a club we are very excited to see what he will accomplish this season.”
Orlando City SC continue to go under a transformation this offseason under new head coach Oscar Pareja, with Schlegel now the club's sixth defender on the roster and fourth addition to the squad. They allowed defenders such as of Danilo Acosta, Lamine Sane and Shane O'Neill depart the team this winter, with Schlegel the first reinforcement in that department.
Robin Jansson, signed last season, is expected to anchor the backline once again.
