They might not be needed, but 24 high-visibility orange balls are on-site and available if snow becomes a factor at Saturday's MLS Cup final (8 pm ET, FOX, UniMás | TSN1/3/4, RDS in Canada).
As of late Friday morning, forecasters predicted just a five percent chance for snow at BMO Field for the match between first-time finalists Toronto FC and Seattle Sounders. Still, there have been dustings of snow in the area in early mornings and overnight over recent days.
According to league operations executives, match referee Alan Kelly will have sole discretion as to whether the orange balls are to be used and will make the decision approximately one hour before kickoff.
If the orange balls are to be used, each team will get six for warmups and the other 12 will stay with the officiating crew.
