It's not hard to spot Alphonso Davies' enormous talent and potential when he plays for the Vancouver Whitecaps, and as it turns out, his analytics data is pretty eye-popping as well.
Veteran statistics guru Paul Carr of TruMedia Networks recently took a deep dive into the Canadian teen phenom's numbers for OptaPro's "ProVision" series, comparing his performance data to Major League Soccer's data as well as some of the world's other top young prospects to get a fuller picture of what Bayern Munich paid an MLS-record transfer fee to acquire earlier this year.
In short? The kid 'Caps fans call "Fonzie" is the real deal.
Davies' basic numbers put him in the company of elite MLS attackers like Lucho Acosta, Miguel Almiron and Nacho Piatti. Going deeper, his core attributes have already helped him stack up some head-turning figures in categories like take-ons, recoveries and passing sequences leading to goals, whether held up against MLS' best or some of the world's most vaunted starlets.
This data stacks up comparably well to internationally-acclaimed rising stars like Ryan Sessegnon, Justin Kluivert and Youri Tielemans, and even holds its own against the data set of Kingsley Coman, the French international who looks like Davies' most likely long-range competitor for minutes on Bayern's left wing.
