TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
Nashville SC have acquired winger Rodrigo Pineiro from Uruguayan club Danubio, the club announced Wednesday.
Pineiro, 21, had three goals and three assists in 20 games across all competitions for Danubio this season. He has made 39 appearances in the Uruguayan top flight throughout his young career so far and has two caps with Uruguay's U-20 national team.
“Rodrigo has the pace and creativity to be a threat in the final third of the field, both on and off the ball," Nashville GM Mike Jacobs said in a club statement. "He adds a unique dynamic to our attack."
Pineiro previously played for Penarol, the same side from which LAFC forwards Diego Rossi and Brian Rodriguez arrived in MLS. Pineiro turned pro in 2016 with Uruguayan club Miramar Misiones.
The winger joins a growing Nashville attack, which started slow in their expansion season, but improved as the season wore on. Designated Player forward Jhonder Cadiz joined during the season and only made his first MLS start in the playoffs while fellow DP Hany Mukhtar battled through a few minor injuries.
Nashville's inaugural season was an unmitigated success, as the club set defensive records for an expansion club before winning a pair of playoff games. They fell in the Eastern Conference semifinals to eventual MLS Cup champion Columbus Crew SC.
