All those individual saves have added up for Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Nick Rimando, who earned his record-breaking 181st MLS victory in a 3-1 showing against the Chicago Fire on Saturday at Rio Tinto Stadium. Rimando surpasses league legend Kevin Hartman, who played for the LA Galaxy, Kansas City Wizards, FC Dallas and New York Red Bulls in a 17-year career.
Rimando holds a career record of 181-135-98, with a 1.19 goals against average, including a league-record 27 penalty-kick saves. Rimando has played 17 seasons for the Miami Fusion (2000-01), D.C. United (2002-06) and Real Salt Lake (2007-present), making 11 playoff appearances and raising the MLS Cup with RSL in 2009.
Three times, Rimando -- who surprisingly has yet to earn MLS Goalkeeper of the Year honors -- has led the league in goals against average, with 10 Top-5 showings overall. His 0.67 GAA in 2010 ranks as the second-best single-season mark, and his 14 shutouts that year are tied for third-best in a single campaign. The Montclair, California native is the league's all-time leader in shutouts (126) and holds the third- and eighth-longest shutout streaks by a goalkeeper.
