New York's Tim Cahill, former Vancouver forward Camilo nominated for FIFA Puskas Award

Two goals with Major League Soccer ties are among the 10 semifinalists for the FIFA Puskás Award for the year's best goal, FIFA announced on Wednesday.

New York Red Bulls midfielder Tim Cahill's memorable volley for Australia against the Netherlands at the 2014 World Cup (see below) is one of the 10 nominated goals, while former Vancouver Whitecaps playmaker Camilo Sanvezzo has also been nominated for his spectacular mid-air volley during a match against the Portland Timbers in October 2013 (see above).

Camilo's goal is the first from a Major League Soccer regular season game to be nominated in the award's six-year history, although former Whitecaps forward Eric Hassli was nominated in 2012 for a Canadian Championship goal against Toronto FC.

The current round of voting runs from Nov. 12 - Dec. 1. The list will then be narrowed down from the current 10 goals to three finalists, with voting continuing and resulting in a winner to be announced on Jan. 12, 2015 at the FIFA Ballon d'Or ceremony in Zurich, Switzerland.

Previous winners of the award include Cristiano Ronaldo (2009), Neymar (2011) and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (2013).
