RED BULL ARENA | Harrison, New Jersey
MAY 28, 2016 (WEEK 13, MLS GAME #127)
7 pm ET (MLS LIVE, SN360, MSG)
Another high-profile match in the Eastern Conference is in store when the New York Red Bulls meet Toronto FC for a second time this season on Saturday evening at Red Bull Arena. The Red Bulls return home off of a record-setting performance, rolling to a 7-0 victory against New York City FC last Saturday at Yankee Stadium. Toronto FC are back on the road for the first time after their season-opening road swing, coming off a goalless draw with Columbus Crew SC last weekend at BMO Field. TFC opened the season and the road journey with a 2-0 win at Red Bull Arena in March.
- The Red Bulls equaled the MLS record for the largest margin of victory in league history, with their 7-0 rout of New York City FC in the Hudson River derby on Saturday afternoon. Bradley Wright-Phillips and Dax McCarty each scored a pair of goals; for Wright-Phillips, he now has six goals in four games against the cross-river rivals.
- Toronto FC concluded their first homestand with a second consecutive draw, reaching a scoreless result with Columbus Crew SC on Saturday afternoon at BMO Field. TFC went 1-1-2 in the homestand, coming after an eight-game road swing while renovations were completed at the stadium.
- The teams are meeting for the second time this season. Sebastian Giovinco netted a first-half penalty kick then set a late insurance goal from Marky Delgado as Toronto FC took a 2-0 win in the season opener for both clubs, March 6 at Red Bull Arena.
- The first match victory was the first ever for Toronto FC at Red Bull Arena. The Red Bulls were 5-0-1 all-time in Harrison before the TFC win; the triumph also snapped an eight-game home undefeated streak for the Red Bulls vs. TFC (7-0-1), which began Oct. 25, 2009. The Red Bulls are now 9-2-1 all-time in home matches vs. Toronto FC.
- TFC is undefeated in their last three home matches vs. the Red Bulls, with victories in the last two meetings there. The Red Bulls last won in Toronto in 2013, a 2-1 victory at BMO Field.
