Legendary goalkeeper Tim Howard, who started his MLS career with the then-MetroStars, returns to New Jersey to meet his former club for the final time as the New York Red Bulls host the Colorado Rapids Saturday night at Red Bull Arena.
Two points in front of rival D.C. United in fourth place in the Eastern Conference, the Red Bulls (12-11-5) are looking to rebound from a bitter 2-1 defeat to New York City FC at Yankee Stadium Saturday night. Alex Muyl put the Red Bulls in front with a left-footed blast in the 10th minute, but Maxi Moralez leveled after being clattered over by Michael Murillo and Heber scored the decisive goal with a filthy backheel that nutmegged Luis Robles in the 53rd minute.
The Rapids (7-14-6) also dropped a Heineken Rivalry Week match, conceding twice in second-half stoppage time in a 2-0 defeat to Real Salt Lake, which captured the Rocky Mountain Cup for a fourth straight year. Colorado had a pair of golden chances in the first half off a corner kick, but Nick Rimando first saved Tommy Smith's headed chance and then got a hand on Kei Kamara's rebound at the doorstep. Kamara would be sent off in the 89th minute for a challenge on Brooks Lennon.
