The New York Red Bulls have signed the first Designated Player of the Jesse Marsch and Ali Curtis era.

The Red Bulls announced on Wednesday that they have completed the transfer of winger Gonzalo Veron from Argentine club San Lorenzo, pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and P-1 visa. Veron joins New York as a DP, and may be eligible to debut as early as Sunday’s rivalry match against New York City FC at Red Bull Arena (7 pm ET; FOX Sports 1 in the US, TSN2 in Canada). Per league and club policy, addition terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Red Bulls will face the Montreal Impact at Stade Saputo on Wednesday night (8 pm ET, MLS LIVE).

"Gonzalo is a young, dynamic player who fits extremely well into our style of play," Red Bulls sporting director Ali Curtis said in a club statement. "He has played for one of the top teams in South America and has shown he can play any of the front four positions. Not only are we getting a player who can help us immediately, he is someone who fits well into our long-term plans for our club."

Veron, 25, joined San Lorenzo in 2012, scoring eight goals and adding six assists in 52 appearances for the 2014 Copa Libertadores winners. A teammate of Montreal playmaker Ignacio Piatti at San Lorenzo, Veron began his career with second-division side Sportivo Italiano, making 62 appearances for the Primera B side before moving up to the top-flight.

Veron appeared in both of San Lorenzo’s matches at the 2014 FIFA Club World Cup, starting their semifinal win against Auckland City FC and their final loss to Real Madrid. He joins forward Bradley Wright-Phillips as the second DP on the Red Bulls roster.

"We are excited to add Gonzalo to our club," Red Bulls head coach Jesse Marsch said in the statement. "We think he fits into the style that we want to play. He is a young, exciting player with the ability to play a few different attacking roles. He has the potential to be a dynamic player in this league."
