The New York Red Bulls have acquired goalkeeper, David Jensen, from FC Utrecht of the Dutch top flight Eredivisie.
Jensen, 27, made 112 appearances since 2016 with Utrecht but had only made five this season after relinquishing his starting spot. The Red Bulls were looking to add competition for current No. 1 keeper Ryan Meara, according to head coach Chris Armas.
“David brings a wealth of professional experience to our club,” RBNY sporting director Denis Hamlett said in a club statement. “When scouting David, we were impressed with him on and off the field, we know he is a solid goalkeeper and we think he’ll be great in our locker room, too. We’ve got a strong group of goalkeepers to work together and push each other every day in training.”

Jensen, a regular member of the Danish national team as he was turning professional, spent most of his career before Utrecht with FC Nordsjaelland in Denmark. He made 85 appearances with the club and was part of the squad that won the 2011-2012 league title.
“In speaking with David, I’m confident he’ll be a great fit for our team,” Armas said. “He is a veteran guy who knows what it takes to win. He brings a different type of experience to our group, having played at a high level in different parts of Europe. We look forward to getting David integrated into our team in the coming weeks.”
Earlier this offseason, the Red Bulls moved on from club legend Luis Robles, who had been the club's starting goalkeeper for the past seven seasons.
