YANKEE STADIUM, Bronx, New York
May 21, 2016 (WEEK 12, MLS Game #121)
3 pm ET (FOX)
- Both clubs are coming off Wednesday midweek matches: the Red Bulls defeated the Chicago Fire at home on a Mike Grella strike, while NYCFC wrapped up a two-game road trip with a tie at Toronto FC, a match in which they rested several starters ahead of the New York derby.
- The teams met three times in 2015, the first year for NYCFC in Major League Soccer, and the Red Bulls won all three.
- Red Bulls striker Bradley Wright-Phillips owned the rivalry, scoring in each match, netting four goals in all. He scored both goals in the first meeting between the teams on May 10 at Red Bull Arena, a 2-1 Red Bulls win, then scored in the only meeting between the clubs at Yankee Stadium, a 3-1 win on June 28. Wright-Phillips scored the opening goal in the Red Bulls’ 2-0 win Aug. 9 in Harrison.
