Having already clinched an Audi 2019 MLS Cup Playoff berth, New York City FC are eying first place in the Eastern Conference and put a season-high four-match winning streak on the line Saturday afternoon at Yankee Stadium when they host a New England Revolution side unbeaten in their last four.
NYCFC (14-5-8) booked a postseason berth for the fourth consecutive season and moved to second in the East following a 3-1 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps at BC Place Saturday night. A trivela finish by Heber in the 10th minute gave the visitors the lead. It was the Brazilian's 14th goal of the season, but he departed with a quad injury 11 minutes later. Gary Mackay-Steven replaced Heber and, on his birthday, doubled NYCFC's lead with his first MLS goal in the 26th minute. Yordy Reyna gave the Whitecaps a lifeline in the 64th minute, but Alexandru Mitrita put the game away eight minutes later.
The Revolution (10-9-9) are sixth in the East following a 1-1 draw with Toronto FC Saturday night at Gillette Stadium. After Nicolas Benezet broke the scoreless stalemate to put TFC in front in the 74th minute, but Gustavo Bou leveled for the Revs in the 86th minute, his sixth goal in eight appearances.
