TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
New York City FC have acquired Argentine attacking midfielder Valentin Castellanos on loan from Uruguayan side Club Atletico Torque.
Castellanos' loan runs through the 2018 season with an option to purchase. The deal is subject to receipt of his P1 Visa and ITC.
“Valentin is a fast, young player who can play as a No.7, as a No.11, or even as a No. 9 as he did in his last three games with Torque," NYCFC coach Domenec Torrent told the club website. “He has a lot of quality 1-v-1 and he has a lot of energy. He will improve our attacking, especially when the team wants to play a bit deeper and we want to get in behind.”
The 19-year old spent the last 12 months on loan at Torque – another club under the umbrella of NYCFC owners City Football Group – from Universidad de Chile. He represented Torque on 19 occasions and scoring three goals to help the team achieve promotion to the First Division for the first time in its history.
“We’re very excited about Valentin," NYCFC sporting director Claudio Reyna told the club website. “We think he’ll make an impact right away because he’s very hungry and motivated for this opportunity to join NYCFC.”
