New York City FC moved quickly Wednesday to deny rumors that Andrea Pirlo would be headed out on loan this offseason.
Pirlo was linked with Premier League side Manchester City, who share ownership with NYCFC, and Serie A club Inter Milan, local rivals of AC Milan, where he starred from 2001-11. NYCFC confirmed to MLSsoccer.com on Wednesday that Pirlo wouldn’t be loaned out.
The 36-year-old Italian national team legend joined NYCFC this summer and made 13 appearances and recorded five assists for the expansion club. Their inaugural MLS season fell short of the Audi 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs with an eighth-place finish in the Eastern Conference.
