New England to make do without Gambian duo

Kenny Mansally

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – If New England are to secure their second SuperLiga title in three seasons, they'll have to to so without the services of Kenny Mansally and Sainey Nyassi.

The duo will miss both the SuperLiga final against Monarcas Morelia on Wednesday night and the MLS clash against Seattle on Saturday night while away on national-team duty with Gambia.

Mansally and Nyassi linked up with squad on Tuesday for a four-day training camp to prepare for Saturday's African Cup of Nations qualifier against Namibia in Banjul, Gambia.

[inline_node:302130]Revolution coach Steve Nicol surely would have liked to have Mansally and Nyassi in his squad for the decisive match, but the FIFA international fixture date gives preference to national sides in this situation, and Scorpions coach Paul Put decided to call in the New England duo as Gambia start their campaign.

“To be honest, I'm thinking about what we're going to do in their place,” Nicol told MLSsoccer.com on Tuesday. “They're not here. It's pointless to talk about what could or could not happen. Obviously, there's going to have to be a change as far as Sainey's concerned, so whoever is going to play will do a good job.”

Although Nicol said he has decided how he will fill Nyassi's vacancy, he does not plan to disclose his contingency plan prior to revealing his starting XI shortly before kickoff.
