Nashville SC signing Randall Leal wins Concacaf League with Saprissa

Randall Leal - Concacaf League Trophy - THUMB ONLY

One of Nashville SC’s showcase acquisitions for their inaugural MLS season got to hoist a trophy on Tuesday night.

Winger Randall Leal went the full 90 minutes for Deportivo Saprissa as the Costa Rican club won the 2019 Concacaf League, earning a 0-0 road draw vs. Honduran club Motagua in the second leg of the tournament’s two-legged final to triumph 1-0 on aggregate.

Signed by Nashville from Saprissa in September, Leal, 22, is finishing the current season with El Monstruo Morado (“The Purple Monster”) – who are also still in contention to win their domestic Apertura title – before joining Nashville for 2020 preseason training in January.

The Costa Rican international was key to Saprissa’s Concacaf League victory, setting up former MLSer Johan Venegas with a throughball in the first leg for the only goal of the final.

A knockout tournament featuring clubs from Central America, the Caribbean and Canada that provides a qualifying path into Concacaf Champions League, Concacaf League was founded in 2017.
