Nashville SC have acquired German midfielder Hany Mukhtar from Danish side Brondby, becoming the club's first-ever Designated Player, it was announced Tuesday. Nashville reportedly paid a $3 million transfer fee for Mukhtar, per Sam Stejskal and Jeff Rueter of The Athletic. Nashville also sent $100,000 General Allocation Money to the Seattle Sounders for his rights.

Mukhtar will remain on loan at Brondby until January 2020.

“Our plan for putting our roster together is about finding the 11 players who perform the best together,” Nashville GM Mike Jacobs said in a statement. “Adding a creative playmaker like Hany [Mukhtar] is a huge coup. His ability to create and finish scoring chances offers our club a versatile attacking weapon who will fit naturally within the group we are putting together.”

Mukhtar, 24, is an attacking midfielder who has 22 goals and 27 assists in 94 career league matches for Brondby. A product of the Hertha Berlin academy, he was one of Germany's highly-touted prospects, featuring regularly for his country at all youth levels. He scored the tournament-winning goal in the 2014 U-19 European Championship final and featured at the 2015 U-20 World Cup.

“I’m really excited to be a part of Nashville SC and to help build something!” said Mukhtar. “I’m coming to MLS to win and I can’t wait to get started with my new teammates. All together we will achieve big things!”
