Morelia take Apertura lead

Miguel Sabah had a big week for both the Mexican national team and Morelia.

who played with Mexico and scored the last goal that gave "El Tri" their triumph over the USA in a CONCACAF Final Round World Cup qualifying match -- netted a couple of goals versus Ciudad Juarez (27' and 36') and was the player of the week.

Chilean Hugo Droguett algo scored twice (29' and 52') and Elias Hernandez, on a penalty kick (62'), put the last nail in Indios' coffin.

While Morelia is now on the top, "La Tribu" is on the bottom and the problem gets bigger because Hector Hugo Eugui's squad have not yet scored a goal after four games. America showed a recovery of its style and beat Atlas, 2-1, at Azteca Stadium.

Salvador Cabañas, with a great goal (17') and Jean Beausejour (60') were the main support of the victory, their first of the Apertura 2009 campaign at home.

Chilean Ismael Fuentes (22') tried to get closer to Aguilas, but it was not enough for Atlas.

Cruz Azul was stopped by Santos Laguna and could not get its third victory in a row. Guerreros finally won 3-2, despite Emanuel Villa opened early the score at 7'. At second half in only 10 minutes, Santos changed the story. Carlos Quintero (54'), Juan Pablo Rodriguez (60') and Daniel Ludueña (64') turned around the score and got 3 important points. Jaime Lozano made another goal for Cruz Azul (68') but the damage was done.

Omar Bravo's return to club Chivas was overshadowed by a couple of goals from Javier Hernandez. "Chicharito" worked fine for 2-0 over Queretaro and put Guadalajara back in the fight for the first places in Mexican championship. Hernandez (15' and 44') could have scored other two goals, because Gallos Blancos was an easy target, but Chivas forgave them.

Omar Bravo is finally at home after a terrible adventure in Europe. The Mexican striker did not find the way to the success with Deportivo La Coruñaand and after a year is back in town. "Omarcito" (little Omar) entered to the game at 53' in substitution of Gonzalo Pineda, excited the crowd, but he did not score.

Pachuca and Toluca lost the winning strike. The Tuzos fell 3-0 San Luis, and the Diablos Rojos lost 1-0 at Monterrey. San Luis' goals were made by Eduardo Coudet (16'), Michael Orozco (72') and Noe Maya (74'). It's important to remember that Pachuca had two ejected players: Paul Aguilar (38') and David Muñoz Mustafa (64').

Rayados won thanks to a solo goal from Chilean Humberto Suazo and took the smile from Toluca's coach, Jose Manuel de la Torre.

Who is really worried is Ricardo Ferretti. Pumas' coach saw his team beaten again at Apertura 2009, their fourth consecutive defeat. UNAM felt 2-1 to Tigres and added a new teardrop for its fans.

Lucas Lobos (24' and 78') was the executioner from Tigres, and Pablo Barrera (53') equalized the score for few minutes. The champion is playing like trash and the end of the tunnel is still too far.

The last result was the first victory in the championship for Puebla. Alejandro Acosta's goal (49') beat Atlante, who is on a two-match losing streak that could be stopped next Saturday against Chivas.
