It went down to the wire, but young Montreal Impact standout Anthony Jackson-Hamel edged out New York City FC star David Villa to snare the AT&T MLS Goal of the Week prize for Week 7.
Jackson-Hamel took top honors for his backheeled redirection of his teammate Hernan Bernardello's shot from distance in the dying moments of Montreal's clash with Atlanta United on Saturday. The clutch, inventive touch wrongfooted goalkeeper Alec Kann and earned the Impact their first victory of the season.
Jackson-Hamel's effort reaped 47 percent of the GOTW vote, with Villa finishing close behind with 43 percent for his jaw-dropping strike from long, long range against Philadelphia. Fellow nominees Will Johnson (5 percent), Cyle Larin (4 percent) and Romain Alessandrini (2 percent) finished well back of that front-running pair.
The winning tally is only the second goal in Jackson-Hamel's MLS career. He and his IMFC teammates return to action on Saturday with a visit to Chester, Pennsylvania to take on the winless Union (1 pm ET | TVAS in Canada, MLS LIVE in US).
