The Canada U-20 national team picked up a 2-1 victory over Honduras on Saturday night, and a recent Montreal Impact Homegrown signee was a big reason why.
Ballou Jean-Yves Tabla, signed by the Impact in October, scored the first goal of the international friendly, taking a pass from FC Edmonton’s Shamit Shome before beating two Honduran defenders and scoring.
After Honduras tied the game, Kris Twardek (Millwall) scored the winner in the 89th minute at Estadio Carlos Miranda in Comayungua, Honduras. Canada and Honduras will conclude their two-game series on Monday.
Tabla’s goal was his first at the U-20 level but his fourth internationally. Before signing with the Impact, he had five goals and five assists playing for the USL’s FC Montreal in 2016.
Impact teammate David Choinière was also called up to Canada for the two friendlies vs. Honduras, along with FC Montreal defender Thomas Meilleur-Giguere.
