After securing a 2-2 draw in second-half stoppage time in the opening leg, the Montreal Impact take their away goals back to Stade Saputo, where they hope to secure a berth in the Canadian Championship semifinals. The winner on aggregate meets either the Vancouver Whitecaps FC or Calgary-based Cavalry FC in the two-legged semifinals.
Omar Browne broke a scoreless stalemate in the 62nd minute, but Ryan Telfer and Rodrigo Gattas struck five minutes apart to give York9 the late lead. Saphir Taider came up with the late heroics for the Impact with his equalizer from the penalty spot two minutes into second-half stoppage time.
Montreal Impact
The Impact have lost four consecutive league games, including a 2-1 defeat to Columbus Crew SC Saturday night at MAPFRE Stadium. Josh Williams latched onto a Wil Trapp corner kick and headed in the opening goal six minutes after kickoff. Zakaria Diallo leveled in similar fashion for the Impact in first-half stoppage time. David Acam put the Crew in front in the first minute of the second half and Montreal ended with 10 men after But after being Bacary Sagna was sent off on a straight red card for DOGSO in the 55th minute.
York9 FC
Third place in the Canadian Premier League's fall season, York9 suffered their second setback Sunday, falling to Cavalry FC 1-0 with an own goal by Daniel Gogarty in the 10th minute providing the difference.
Series Matchup
- This is the second meeting between York9 FC and the Montreal Impact in the Canadian Championship. The teams played to a 2-2 draw in the opening leg July 10.
