It appears as if the Nelson Rivas era in Montreal is over.
The Impact announced that the veteran central defender had been removed from the team's roster as of Tuesday morning. Rivas, a 31-year-old Colombian who joined the team in 2012, brought with him big expectations and an even bigger list of injury troubles throughout his career.
It turned out that the Impact got that second version. Rivas only managed to play 11 regular season games with the Impact, all coming in his first season with the team. He also got on the field for last year's playoff loss to Houston, his only work of 2013.
Rivas' most recent performance for Montreal came this spring when he suited up for a Canadian Championship appearance. True to form, he left the field in the first half with an unspecified leg injury.
